as i type this – its the 30th september. can you even believe it? i feel like life has just gotten in the way this month and this blog has suffered as a result. energy, time and mood have been at an all-time-low. BUT i am determined to get back into the swing of things – firstly, with the next instalment of vino & vinyl, followed by another very special post tomorrow – so stay tuned!
this month has been wet and windy and my inner barometer ain’t half been kicking off. the way the weather affects me is nothing short of a headache. that being said, i’ve still found time to drink some wine and play some records. of course i have.
wine-wise – we’ve yet to sample a nice red on the blog yet so i thought why not? and sure i could’ve just gone down to tesco metro and picked up a 6quid bottle of merlot.. but i decided to venture to my own kitchen wine rack… via eurasia. okay, pour yourself a glass kids GET READY TO LEARN STUFF. fun fact, my dad works away a lot. he’s worked all over the world in fact. (yep, he’s a spy). and every country he goes to he picks up a bit of the culture, a fair bit of the language and usually meets some great local workmates along the way. a few years ago he was working in georgia, the former soviet republic situated at the intersection of europe and asia. a country that is in fact famous for its ancient wine-growing region of kakheti. my dad received a few bottles as a thank you (quite a common georgian custom) from a colleague and as he isn’t really a wine drinker.. i’ve been nice enough to take them off his hands. and in short, i started with the prettiest bottle, okay?
the vinyl i’ve been spinning this month is a little closer to home. very proud to call kashmere from sunny stockport my mates. the electro indie doom pop quartet recently released their ep ‘lucid’ on vinyl and i, of course, had to have it. with sick artwork designed by their very own joey newey (vocals, guitars), the record is a mix of synth, indie pop with a bitta disco thrown in. sparkling guitar riffs and lyrics that stick in your head. and tbh, with or without the record spinning i’m usually dancing around my room to these lads’ tunes on the regular anyway.
THIS MONTH
the vino ~ teliani valley – teluri saperavi (თელური საფერავი) from kakheti, georgia. ‘a dry red’. i’ll be the first to admit that i’m not the biggest drinker/expert on red wines, but as they go i really liked this. i prefer drier wines and this was certainly that. plus it was really light and smooth too.
the vinyl ~ kashmere 12″ vinyl ‘lucid’ 5-track ep.
1.codeine. 2.anaesthesia. 3.gravity. 4.lucid .5.bonus track.
